TRUE FEMININITY
you are invited!!
Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullaah wa barakatuh
Yes, it is me.
I know I’ve been away from substack for a while, and if you ask me, Ammah has been doing a great job of keeping you abreast of all that’s new and good #AtMaktabah. Keep her in your du’aa.
Maktabah sisters haven’t missed me too much since we’ve been hanging out weekly at the book club.
And if you haven’t, this is your cue to join us.
I hope you have been well and thriving in your deen.
I hope that at least you have been showing up, in the best way that you can, regardless.
Allah rewards for effort, keep at it sis.
I’m back in your inbox today to invite you to a special bookversation this month.
If you’ve been with us long enough, you’ll know that our bookversations have been in-person mostly.
This month, we’re taking it virtual.
Which is great news because you get to join us from anywhere you are in the world, Alhamdulillaah.
If you are new, then let me introduce you to Maktabah Bookversations.
Maktabah bookversations are simply book conversations for spiritual growth. We had our first one in September of 2023 with the book; Journey to Allaah and have hosted a few more ever since.
Each has been beautiful and unique in its own way, and this month, for the very first time, we’ll be hosting the bookversation with the author of the book.
No, it’s neither Ibn Rajab nor Ibn Jawzī, we’re saving those bookversations for Jannah in shaa Allaah!
It’s the lovely Salma Yusuf.
You may have ‘met’ her at our Living Ramadan series earlier this year, where she spoke about living and growing with the Qur’aan.
Salma recently published her first book “True Femininity: Lessons from the lives of the righteous” — and it is a book I think YOU should read.
If you’ve been reading with us on the #readtoihsanchallenge, or attended the recent Maktabah Alumni potluck, then you’re familiar with the book or maybe even own a copy.
If you’ve haven’t, here’s what True Femininity is about:
True Femininity explores the meaning of femininity in Islam, looking at its spiritual, cultural, and personal aspects.
Through Qur'anic insights, inspiring stories, and practical reflections, it challenges common misconceptions and highlights the strength and beauty of righteous women in Islamic history.
The book also bridges the past and present, offering practical advice to help muslim women embrace and embody their true femininity in today's world.
We will be exploring all this and more contemporary issues around femininity this month at the Bookversation.
It is free and you want to be a part of this conversation, so…
If you’d like to get yourself a copy so you can read the book beforehand, you can get N1000 off your online (selar) purchase with the code ‘rti1000’
If you’re abroad and would like to get a copy, send a message to +2348021211789 for international shipping.

*passes mic back to Umm Bunny*
Femininity has become a hot topic in recent times, and as with every trending topic, everyone has (and shares quietly strongly & confidently) an opinion on what it is and what it isn’t.
As Muslim Women, we know better than to take opinions (especially those that influence our servitude to Allaah) without considering our Islamic values.
This is why this book is relevant and why these conversations matter.
I look forward to hosting you and hearing your thoughts on the subject of femininity.
Your sister in striving,
Fatimah Umm Bunny ♡
